Faith has brought the peoples close not to a particular culture but to the dynamic of victory over self for the sake of an approach to the universal truth of the human person, who constitutes the authentic point of impact for the interpretation of the Christian message. The exodus, the cultural fracture, with its dying in order to be reborn, is a basic trait of Christianity.

No one is born Christian, not even in a Christian world and of Christian progenitors. Christianity can arrive always and only as new birth. In the notion of revelation the “unowned,” that which does not belong to my own sphere, approaches me and bears me up, away from myself, beyond myself. Something new carries us within a larger space, and precisely in this way…opens us up to the opportunity to come side by side with one another.9
